Originally from the South West, Charlie started her Pilates career in 2005 as the studio manager for a thriving Yoga and Pilates studio in Hong Kong, where she lived for 12 years. Her interest in the discipline grew as she witnessed first-hand the amazing results that regular Pilates classes could yield. She began her teacher training with the Polestar method in 2007 under the tutelage of Master Trainer Dawwna Wayburn, certified in 2009 and hasn’t looked back since.
Charlie has worked extensively with a pre and post-natal clientele and enjoys teaching her clients a ‘from-the-ground-up’ approach to Pilates that changes not only the way a body looks but, more importantly, how it moves and feels.
Pilates at BYC
Charlie’s Pilates classes are suitable for all levels and abilities. Each class provides modifications to allow for varying abilities, so beginners and more experienced practitioners alike can feel suitably challenged. You can expect to feel stronger, longer, leaner and more stable.
Pilates is a safe form of exercise which focuses on the deep abdominal muscles to support, stabilise and rebalance your body. Charlie’s approach to teaching is a completely inclusive one and believes that every ‘body’ can benefit hugely from the fundamental Pilates principle of reinforcing functional movement through strengthening, stabilizing and rediscovering body awareness.
All classes incorporate a variety of movements leaving the body feeling stretched, toned and strengthened. Charlie believes that people get far more out of their practice if they understand why they are doing what they are doing. To this end, Charlie’s approach to teaching is to apply a functional aspect to each exercise so you can understand how your practice will start to improve day-to-day movements like sitting, walking, biking, playing sport or carrying heavy bags!
