I've been teaching Yoga in Bristol since 2004. I am the owner and manager at Bristol Yoga Centre and the founder of Everyday Yoga. I currently offer yoga holidays, private tuition, weekly group classes, workshops and courses. I started practicing yoga when I was young as my mother and father in law are both yoga teachers in Japan. This created early awareness of the practice and my interest deepened over the years.

Yoga has brought me balance and grounding both mentally and physically. It has helped me to be relaxed and focused when facing challenges. I believe that everyone can benefit from finding a practice that suits them. My style of teaching aims to maximise individual potential by providing a supportive and relaxing atmosphere for students of all abilities.  The emphasis on body and mind awareness means that the practice will not only be safe but students will notice their development sooner.

Yoga Training

In 2003, I decided to take a British Wheel of Yoga (BWY) foundation course, which led me to study for a BWY diploma in teaching yoga at the Life Centre in London (2005).  I trained and qualified to be a Foundation Course Tutor with the BWY in 2013 and received 500 hours Teacher certificate by the Yoga Alliance in 2014. In 2020, my Yoga Alliance membership was upgraded to a Senior Yoga Teacher. I have also assisted in 200hrs Yoga Teacher training for the Bristol City Yoga.

As a teacher, I believe that it’s important to continuously develop my knowledge and teaching practice and have completed specialist training in:

  • Yoga therapy with Mukunda Stiles

  • Yoga Alliance Pregnancy yoga with Laura Gilmore

  • BWY Meditation module with Kay Baxter

  • Foundation in Teaching Mindfulness Meditation with Michael Stone

  • Mastery in Asana Adjustments with Chris Gladwell

  • Yoga Sutra of Patanjali with Richard Freeman

  • Foundation of Viniyoga with Paul Harvey

  • Integrating pregnant students in a group class with Paul Harvey

  • Subtle Bodies: the Power of Prana & Bandhas with Laura Gilmore

  • A History of Yoga: The Latest Research with Mark Singleton, James Mallinson, Somdev Vasudeva and Jason Birch

  • Anatomy & Physiology Applied to Yoga - Andrew Mcgonigle

  • BWY Anatomy of Movement Module with Andrea Newman

I also regularly attend CPD (continuing Professional Development) workshops and IST (In-Service Training) accredited by BWY each year on different topics such as:

  • Yoga for Stress Management

  • Yoga for Healthy Backs

  • How to Teach Pranayama

  • Observing & Adjusting Asana in Group Classes

  • The Spiritual Philosophies of Yoga Part 1&2

  • Modifying Sequence

  • Introducing Chakras

  • Yoga Sutra: Study Through Sound

  • Healing Mantra

  • Mindfulness Meditation & Yoga

  • Face Yoga: Releasing Stress Stored in the Muscles and Nerves of the Face, Neck and Head

I have worked with athletes as well as people with severe disabilities and illnesses and know how to adapt the classes to suit individual needs. I’ve also taught people with mental and psychological issues such as PTSD, ADHD, addiction, anxiety and depression. I have a special interest in yoga therapy and believe that thoughtful and intelligent yoga practice can aid healing and recovery.

Feedback from the class

"Naomi's mindfulness meditation classes have given me a new depth which I had not known, or given time to explore, and which I've found extremely beneficial to my every day life. The way she incorporates breathing exercises, sound, sensation and body movement gives my practice an added immersive dimension so I'm excited to come and learn something new each week. Naomi is a profoundly knowledgable teacher but she keeps the sessions accessible, creative and playful.  The classes have given me a sense of spaciousness and sensitivity to my responses to daily life and I have felt able to be more peaceful, focused and in tune with myself and others."
